Furlough

A man jailed for a murder he did not commit escapes in the desperate hope of finding the young son he has never met.

Freed after a five-year prison stint for a crime he did not commit, Eddie Grassle is looking to make a fresh start. His main goal: to unite with the young child he has never met. But a fateful decision lands Eddie back in jail, this time as an unwitting accomplice to a murder.

Convinced he is headed to prison for life, Eddie executes a brazen jailbreak in the desperate hope of finding and meeting his son. Standing in his way are an army of police, the unforgiving woods and swamps of southwest Florida, and a mysterious killer sent to find him before he is re-captured. Sensing holes in Eddie’s case, a veteran homicide detective must battle the corrupt head prosecutor— as well as ghosts of her own past—to hopefully recapture him alive.

With only thirty-six hours before he promises to turn himself in, Eddie must overcome nearly impossible odds to succeed at what he feels is his only chance at salvation.

Tell Me A Story
Tell Me A Story
"It’s a sharply written narrative and makes the reader feel as though he is in the midst of the action that seems to be non-stop after the first few chapters....Moon is a master of his craft, and I was thoroughly impressed with his dexterity to move the story forward as scenes kept shifting. The other characters also made the story interesting, especially the African American detective, Riggins, that is true to herself and the integrity of the law she agreed to uphold."

"I started reading this book for a book club that I am in. I wasn’t sure after the first couple of chapters because nothing seemed to tie together. Am I ever glad that I stuck with this book! The characters are so real. Our main character, Eddie Grassle, makes a wrong decision and cannot seem to catch a break. There are people in this story with hidden agendas and we finally learn the motivations that drive them. The book is definitely longer than most that I read but I enjoyed it so much. I am looking forward to reading more by this author."

"Jacob Moon takes us on a powerful and relentless journey in Furlough! Eddie Grassle has been in prison, and all he wants is to meet his son. But his choices, and forces out of his control, are hell bent on keeping that from happening. Moon teases us and catapults us through the air, and we have no idea where we may land! Good luck putting Furlough down until you finish the whole book!"

"What a great read! It was very well written with all kinds of surprising twists and turns. It kept me engaged from one event to the next. I felt my heart pouring out for the main characters involved from the detectives helping Eddie Grassle going through the polluted Judicial system we have in place. Then finally justice is revealed in the end. Thank God for that. Loved it!"

"The plot & character development is extremely detailed to the point where you are whisked away into the story with ease. As the reader, you feel as though you are experiencing each event through not only the main, but supporting character’s eyes. You see what the see, feel what they do. Few books have commanded and maintained my attention from beginning to end the way this novel has. Though repetitive in some areas, this serves to add a realistic touch to the human psyche and what goes on inside the mind of the average individual, whether a detective, prisoner or anywhere in between. Order, read and you’ll likely be pleased with your decision to do so."

"This book is so well written it amazed me. Had a hard time putting it down. I liked it so much I have sent copies to relatives and friends. The book I read after this one was a New York Times Best Seller - Furlough blew that one away. I can't wait to see where Jacob Moon goes with his next novel! Highly recommend this one!"

"Let me preface this review by saying that if you are someone who, like I do, judges a book less critically when it is the author's first - you really won't need to with this one, it is more than capable of standing on it's own. Though the novel is not a short one by any stretch of the imagination, it was actually a pretty fast read (I finished it in 2 days). It is well written, the story and characters are very well developed and it did not have the usual issue with longer novels of this genre."

"Jacob Moon delivers a fast-pasted story of Eddie Grassle’s imprisonment for wrongful charges of two counts of murder. It’s a sharply written narrative makes the reader feel as though he is in the midst of the action that seems to be non-stop after the first few chapters. There were several times, I was truly so involved with the drama that I was holding my breathe with anticipation over what was unfolding. This suspense was so intense, that I read hours past my bedtime and took the book with me to catch a few paragraphs, while in the doctor’s office or waiting for my food order delivery."

"Instead of the typical situation where there is tangent of background on a certain character and you're waiting for it to get back to the current story, the opposite seems to happen here. You find yourself actually looking forward to more of the background info to allow you to better understand the people involved. Make sure you don't pick this book up unless you have a decent amount of time available to spend reading, as you will not want to put it down."
