Dead Reckoning

A tabloid writer investigating a grisly murder uncovers a possible supernatural connection to his town's deadly, century-old race riot.

A heinous murder sends Florida tabloid reporter Rayne Dawson sniffing for details. But when he discovers that a supernatural force may be responsible for both this death and a string of others, he enlists the help of the beautiful owner of the local history center. Together, they learn of an explosive element to the case that, like the tragic race riot that happened in the town a century before, the local citizenry wishes to bury and forget.

While continuing to battle his own personal demons, Rayne discovers that he is the only one able to stop the troubled spirit, and realizes he must find a way to destroy it before his own soul and those closest to him are lost forever. Fans of Watchmen and Candyman are sure to love this new crime thriller, a powerful and entertaining story of death and personal tragedy, and how the indomitable human will to survive comes face-to-face with evil that hides where we least expect it.

"I'm not usually one for horror or supernatural suspense, but after picking it up, I could NOT put it down! I had to know more about what was happening, and what was behind the murders. I really loved the cast of characters, especially Terry, and thought the author did an excellent job weaving present day and past scenes together to tell the story, and bringing it all together at the end for an excellent supernatural horror story. Moon is a really talented writer who clearly does his research (and doesn't shy away from the awful situations Black people experienced in history) and offers a strong story that's sure to keep you turning the pages until late into the night!"

"I completed the reading of this book in only 14 days. A 490-page book usually takes me closer to 40 days to complete. Because of how well it was written I wanted to stay in the moment as I read it. The thought of a supernatural serial killer getting in the minds of current victims to do the killing for him 90 years after he was hanged for the murders he committed while he was alive was incomprehensible to me. I had to read the beginning and end of the book twice to fully absorb the characters that the author so well brought to life. The end of the book totally surprised me with how the main character Rayne Dawson, had to go into a supernatural way to resolve his case and combat his own demons. Loved it."

"I would describe this book as a supernatural crime thriller mystery. Sometimes the last really does come back to haunt you. Well written and a great story with an ending you won’t see coming."

"This book draws you in within the first few pages and it never stops. I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book. Every bit as good as Jake Moon's first book, Furlough, but also very different. What a great author. Be prepared to stay up all night!"

"Awesome plot and excellent character development. The throwbacks to an early time period were my favorite part of this book. Surprising and fulfilling!"

"This was definitely a page turner. I couldn't put it down. I never knew what was coming next and I love that. I also really appreciate the nod to history in this book."

"Given that I read 50-60 books a year and the majority of them are horror/thriller type books, I am seldom surprised by much of what happens. For the second book in a row, this author has kept me confused and I am absolutely loving it. Not only was I repeatedly surprised, but I couldn't even decide if I liked some of the characters! If you are a fan of thrillers (this one has a bit of a supernatural element to it), you should definitely set aside some time to read this fantastic book. I look forward to reading more in the future, fingers crossed that there will be many more."

"I won this books from Goodreads and this is my own opinion. Although I don’t often read this genre, I was intrigued by the write-up to enter a contest to win said book from Goodreads and Jacob Moon. The history behind the book is something that I had always been interested in, racism and the stories hidden behind cemetery stones. I will certainly look for Mr. Moon’s other books as well."

"I really enjoyed this book. I also pretty much cringed when reading it! The evil but romance! I am lucky I have not experienced a lot of the events that occurred in this book! I do wish more people would appreciate how far we have come in race relations!!! You definitely won't be sorry reading this book - you won't want to put it down!"

"I don't know why, but it took me forever to get into this one! Once I made it about half way though I completely changed my mind. This definitely became a page turning! And I couldn't put it down. This is not my first book from Jacob Moon and it will definitely not be my last!"

"Creepy from page 1, in a good way. Interesting characters, great story with clever elements, and as a bonus, I learned something about U.S. history."
